Rank Ranger is a service that provides daily reports of rank tracking and SEO analysis.
Previously, I performed a review of the SheerSEO rank tracking service and came to the conclusion that it wasn’t worth spending your money on. A representative of a competing SEO tracking and analysis company called Rank Ranger commented on this review and requested we do a review of their service as well.
I was given a month trial of their Enterprise service that allowed me 500 keywords tracked with unlimited campaigns and 3 search engines tracked per campaign. This package is regularly priced at $99 per month so my review will be based solely of the use of this package.
I will also note that the purpose of this review is to focus specifically on the search engine rank tracking capabilities though Rank Ranger does offer several advanced features beyond this. I did not test out these advanced features as they did not pertain to my focus and to the average consumer’s reason to sign up for Rank Ranger. If you’d like to test out these advanced features for yourself, feel free to sign-up for a free trial.
Features & Pricing
So in terms of features, Rank Ranger blows SheerSEO out of the water and in multiple ways. Rank Ranger allows you to track up to 50,000 keywords simultaneously (the more keywords, the more expensive the plan) and gives you real-time reporting on your current rankings. Not only does Rank Ranger give your site’s search engine rankings, but it also allows you to track your competition’s rankings, search volume, and their market share. Unlike SheerSEO, you can choose from over 300 supported search engines including YouTube. I could see this compatibility being useful for many YouTube power users.
In addition, it will show your webpage’s information including page ranks, backlinks, and inlinks to allow you to see the bigger picture and adjust your SEO strategy if you spot any common trends. Want to export your rankings to a more workable format? Easy! Rank Ranger allows you to quickly export your customizable web-based reports to a PDF, CSV, Word, or HTML format.
One of the biggest issues I had with SheerSEO was the unappealing interface. Luckily, Rank Ranger’s interface is MUCH better than SheerSEO’s and is easy enough on the eyes even for times where your stuck analyzing a report for hours on end. Another cool feature is that Rank Ranger is 100% white label meaning that you can slap your logo or brand onto your client’s reports and give off that professional SEO look you always wanted.
Here is their pricing structure:
Performance & Function
Rank Ranger’s performance in terms of Google rank tracking was spot on. It was more accurate than SheerSEO and I loved how they have you so much information at a glance within the campaign dashboard as you can see below:
Another cool feature I liked was the “Domain Analysis” feature that basically allows you get an up-to-date snapshot of your domain including backlinks, indexed pages, pagerank, Alexa rank, and much more all on a single screen.
Now throughout my testing, I ran 3 campaigns with two being Google based and one being Bing based. Unfortunately, the majority of my Bing rankings (which is very similar to Yahoo in their ranking algorithm) were way off just like SheerSEO’s results were. This was clear for 30+ search terms, but I’ll give you three real examples here:
Real Bing Rankings
In the end, I found Rank Ranger to be a better rank tracking and SEO analysis service than SheerSEO, but it still had its downfalls. It features an appealing visual interface, additional features, and more search engines supported. On the other hand, the Bing rankings were not correct (similar to SheerSEO) and the pricing was a bit higher than I’d expect therefore I can’t recommend Rank Ranger in most cases. If you just want to use this service for tracking and analyzing Google rankings then this service should suit your needs. If you care about Bing/Yahoo rank tracking then I would not recommend investing in Rank Ranger as you’ll be given incorrect data to work with. Either way, you can sign up for the free 30-day trial and give it a try for yourself with no credit card required.
