After joining the program you have the ability to learn Javascript, HTML/CSS, PHP, jQuery, Python, Ruby, and various APIs. The interface is really easy to use and makes learning to code fun and interesting. This resource is one of the most commonly known places to learn code for free on the web.

Lynda is a paid online service that will teach you how to code or use virtually any type of program. They offer multiple ways of learning with the most common being in-depth video tutorials. A neat feature that Lynda includes is the ability to print out certificates of completion for each course that had been completed in which you can show friends, family, or co-workers.

Team Treehouse allows users to learn to build websites, iPhone and Android apps, Ruby on Rails, and PHP. They boast partnerships with companies like Twitter, Square, Disney, AOL, and Zappos. It is a paid service only with Silver subscriptions starting at $25 a month (or $250 annually) and Gold memberships running at $49 a month (or $490 annually).

Code School

Code School is broken down into four different paths: Ruby, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and iOS. You can make a free account, but it is a $25/month fee to access all the courses with no long term commitment needed. For ‘electives' you can learn and get familiar with the Git and R programming languages.
