Apple Magic Mouse on Windows PC

How to Get an Apple Magic Mouse to Work on a Windows PC

Our team did the research and testing to find the viable ways to configure Apple's Magic Mouse to work on a Windows PC. There are various ways that you can accomplish this setup, so you should choose the one which is the most applicable to your needs and budget.

Method #1: Magic Utilities Software & Bluetooth USB Adapter

While it costs some money to utilize this setup, it will be the most straight-forward as well as offering the best resulting performance that feels like the Magic Mouse does on a native Mac computer.

Here's what you'll need to make this method happen:

The Mouse

A Compatible Bluetooth Dongle or Motherboard

You will need to verify your PC already has the appropriate Bluetooth support built into the motherboard. If not, it is HIGHLY recommended to purchase this exact Bluetooth adapter above as it has been tested & proven to work with the Magic Mouse. There are many adapters out there that have been proven to NOT be compatible with the Magic Mouse. Take this as a warning if you decide to buy a different one.

From here you'll want to download Magic Utilities which is a third-party, but safe software utility for those looking to use a Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard or Magic Trackpad on our Windows PC. The software is a paid solution priced at just under $15 a year, but it does include a 28 day free trial so you can test it out before deciding if you want to purchase a license.

Method #2: Buy a Similar Magic Mouse Alternative for PC

If you don't want to deal with the hassle of setting up third-party software, Microsoft sells their Arc Mouse which is their attempt to natively simulate the form and function of Apple's Magic Mouse on a PC. While it is significantly cheaper than the genuine Apple Magic Mouse 2, it doesn't really match the quality or performance so don't set too high expectations.

Method #3: Download & Install the Driver Directly from Apple

The only free solution to using a Magic Mouse on a Windows computer is their native Magic Mouse Driver which can be obtained by:

  • Visit Apple's Download page
  • Search for the boot camp support software
  • Choose the most recent software version
  • Click download and extract that ZIP file
  • Open the extracted folder and go to Bootcamp > Drivers > Apple
  • Double click the AppleWirelessMouse64 file and follow the on-screen prompts
  • Restart your PC and see if the driver installation worked properly

If it doesn't work, then you'll likely have to resort to method #1 or #2 or simply use another model than the Apple Magic Mouse with your Windows PC.
