Xbox One is one of the most anticipated console launches to date (with the PS4 as a very close rival), but many details are still unknown about the next-gen device. Further details about the Xbox One's Xbox Live Gold Membership were announced yesterday that answered many prospective questions.
Xbox One consoles will be capable of utilizing a single Xbox Live Gold membership and distributing for use between all users of a single console. This feature is dubbed “Home Gold” and will include access to online multiplayer, multimedia streaming services (Redbox Instant, Hulu Plus, Netflix, etc.), Gameplay DVR, and the ‘One Guide'. These services can be enabled/disabled through a standard Xbox Live Gold Membership (which has an MSRP of $60/year).
As we hoped for, Microsoft has confirmed that digital games purchased by any user of a single Xbox One account will be accessible and playable by any other users who share the same Xbox One console.
Microsoft's Xbox Vice President, Marc Whitten, gave a statement on the matter with the Xbox Wire:
It means that your account and your gamertag are truly yours. You don't have to share your gamertag for multiplayer gaming with others in your home, or see recommendations for your kid's cartoons next to the recommended first-person shooter for you. It also means that you can introduce new games and enjoy multiplayer with friends while they are at your house. Last but not least, it also means that when you buy one Xbox Live Gold membership, multiple people can enjoy the best benefits of Xbox Live Gold on your Xbox One at no additional charge.
Additionally, it seems to be that Xbox Live Gold accounts can be shared and signed on simultaneously on both the Xbox One and Xbox 360. Your standard Xbox 360 Gold account will carry over to the Xbox One as expected.
