When Microsoft and Sony debuted their next-generation consoles, it was a surprise to see that there was no support for 4K gaming though photos and videos are viewable that this resolution. As technology advances and more 4K-ready displays are brought into consumers' homes, the desire for gaming at the highest resolution is becoming a bigger trend amongst diehard gamers especially those with high system budgets.
Rumors circulated this morning stating that Sony is working to produce a slightly upgraded ‘PlayStation 4.5' which will harness faster hardware in order to keep up with the needs of 4K gaming. This could also be plausible to work in conjunction with Sony's new PlayStation VR technology as it will be in direct competition with the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift whom both harness the 4k-potential that a PC offers.
As of right now, this is all coming from a unconfirmed report from Kotaku so don't go trading in your PS4 in anticipation just yet. Even if the rumors are true, it could be years before the ‘PS4 4.5' would see the retail shelf so sit tight and stay tuned for more details as they emerge.
