If someone told me year ago that it'd be possible to buy a smartphone with a curved display, I'd probably think they were crazy. Well that time has officially come with Samsung launching the first smartphone of its kind, the Galaxy Round. What benefits the curved display provides is still up in the air from the press release, but they do mention that it will offer “exclusive experiences” and hint on a special roll feature which can be seen briefly in the embedded video below.

So far we know the Samsung Galaxy Round's technical specs include:

  • 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display
  • Android 4.3 Jelly Bean
  • 2.3 GHz quad-core processor
  • 13MP rear camera
  • 2MP front-facing camera
  • 2,800 mAh battery
  • 32GB or 64GB internal storage
  • Weighs 154 grams
  • 7.9mm thick

Interestingly enough if you look closely at the photos of the rear of the phone, it seems as though the back showcases a leather-like material which is shown in the “Luxury Brown” color option (more color options will be available in the future). The Galaxy Round will initially be sold in Korea although pricing and release dates were not disclosed nor do we know whether the device will enter the U.S. market.
