The huge rumor on the street the past two days involves Apple's potential acquisition of the well-known audio brand ‘Beats By Dre' for the sum of $3.2 billion. While it hasn't been officially confirmed for either party, industry sources are fairly certain about the merger. It seems plausible since frontman Dr. Dre made a statement on video yesterday that he will now be the “first billionaire in hip hop” as well as an Instagram photo from fellow rap star & actor Tyrese whose caption also touches on the rumor:
You can check out the video below, Dre makes the statement around the 1:05 mark (caution NSFW language):
If this rumor is indeed true, it will be an interesting acquisition for Apple who primarily stays away from large purchases like this and typically opts for buying companies at a significantly smaller level. In the long run, this could mean big things for the Apple's future products as they may utilize Beats premium audio hardware within future mobile device or computer lines as well as merge the Beats Music service in with their iTunes or iTunes Radio offerings.
Stay tuned for an official statement from Apple or Beats on the matter, but from what we know so far the rumor looks promising and Dr. Dre (who is said to still own at least 25% of the Beats brand) will be in for a remarkable payday.
