Ring is a brand most notable for their video doorbell product lines, but the company is quickly expanding in the smart home security space. Earlier today they announced an affordable security system designed for self-installation.

The base Ring Protect system includes a base station, keypad, contact sensor (for a door or window), motion detector and range extender. Existing Ring products like their video doorbells and security cameras will automatically integrate into the system. Additional components like sensors and keypads are available for purchase separately.

After purchasing the Protect system, you'll still need to dish out $10/month to Ring for service. However, this provides cloud video storage for an unlimited amount of Ring devices. You also receive 24/7 monitoring and cellular backup, so the cost per month becomes justified.

Preorders have begun on Ring.com, Best Buy and Home Depot. The first units will not begin shipment or made available in local brick-n-mortar retailers until late October.
