Non-traditional card games have been all the rage in the past few years with Cards Against Humanity being a pioneer for these modern games which sell specialized decks for play. A noteworthy version dubbed ‘Exploding Kittens’ made history in February of 2015 as the highest funded Kickstarter for a game and also holds the record for the highest number of backers for any campaign on the platform.
Exploding Kittens is like a mixture of Uno and Hot Potato where players pick from the deck each turn in an attempt to avoid an exploding kitten. When a player draws an exploding kitten and does not have a highly-coveted, defuse card that player is removed from the game. Play continues until there is only one person left who is then crowned the winner. You can play with as little as two players and up to 9 players when you combine two decks.
While the game was funded and launched as a physical deck of cards, the creators of the game have officially launched an iOS app with an Android version currently in the works. With a launch price of $1.99, those who download the title within the next four days will be able to download all of the in-app purchases for at no cost as a celebration of the app’s launch.
