Pebble was recently in the news for launching another Kickstarter to raise funds for their new ‘Pebble Time’ smartwatch. Within minutes the campaign had hit the $500,000 funding goal and within hours this number toppled $3 million. As of today (7 days after the campaign started), just shy of 63,000 units have been pre-ordered totaling a whopping $15.85 million dollars in funding and there are still 23 days left in the campaign.
Yesterday, the company announced a more durable, luxury version of this new model simply dubbed the Pebble Time Steel. This higher-end model is identical to the standard Pebble Time despite a stainless steel chassis and a significant boost in battery life (10 days versus 7 Days).
Those looking to pre-order the Steel version can now do so via the original Kickstarter campaign page for $250, a $50 savings in comparison to the $299 price-point it will be sold for when it hits the market.
If you’ve already pre-ordered a standard Pebble Time via Kickstarter, you can upgrade your pre-order to the Steel without any penalties although you will have to wait an extra month to receive your unit. The standard Pebble Time is scheduled to launch this May whereas the Pebble Time Steel is not expected to ship until June 2015.
