NVIDIA’s Original Shield TV Gets New Features From 2nd-Gen Model

One of the big CES highlights from NVIDIA was their new Shield TV box which offers an exciting new chassis and controller design with some beefed up software inside. Since the older model features virtually the same hardware, NVIDIA has just launched an updated for first-generation Shield models to offer all the same software improvements.

Among the list includes a full update to Android 7.0 Nougat as well as new apps like Twitter, NFL, Comedy Central, Amazon Video, Vimeo, Disney Channel, ABC, PlayStation Vue and more. While it functions as a streaming box, the Shield also caters to gamers with a new Games app replaces the ‘Shield Hub' portal.

Within the Games application, you'll be able to access titles via their new GeForce NOW system as well as a local ‘GameStream' library which now supports 4K and HDR support. This update has been rolled out so Shield owners can now download the 3.3 firmware via the device.
