Netflix pioneered the idea of original programming for online video streaming services with competitors like Hulu Plus and Amazon Instant Video following suit shortly after. With House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black both having been very successful ventures for the company, Netflix has put their focus on a new original series which is geared for children.
The series is titled Dreamworks Dragons and based on the wildly popular How To Train Your Dragon franchise. This is not the first time Netflix and Dreamworks have partnered up as the duo released a Netflix-only series called Turbo FAST (based on the movie Turbo) back in 2013 that ran for a total of 26 episodes.
Netflix's focus with Dragons is to tap into the existing popularity of the franchise and offer up new content for kids to enjoy for “years to come”. The series is set to be released exclusively on the Netflix platform sometime in 2015.
