Nest's acquisition of Dropcam allowed the company to venture even further into the smart home market, and their Nest Cam products have been a leading contender in the Wi-Fi camera space for quite some time. The main problem with this is that similar to Netgear's Arlo Q, the Nest Cam cannot be used outside your home unless you purchase a third-party accessory potentially hindering its use in certain situations.

To combat this demand, Nest has announced a new ‘Nest Cam Outdoor' model offering the same great functionality of their standard Nest Cam with a fully weatherproof design. From the launch video and the product images, it seems the camera will be mounted via a magnetic mount which makes it easy for self-installation and adjusting the viewing angle.

For those interested in purchasing this new model, you can visit the Nest Store and place a pre-order at its launch price of $199 per unit. There is no confirmed shipment date as of now, but the store estimation is displaying it will ship in 11-12 weeks.
