Windows 8.1 was a big move from Microsoft after their large disappointment with Windows 8's sales figures, but the changes weren't as drastic as many consumers had hoped. Nonetheless, Microsoft has announced that Windows 8.1 will ship to OEMs starting in August, that way manufacturers can work out all the kinks before shipping the updated OS with their holiday models next Fall.
A pre-release version of Windows 8.1 has been available for download for several weeks now so those of you who want to test out the new OS prior to its final release can download it via Microsoft's website.
