At this year's Computex, Intel announced their new Core i9 X-series which included a staggering 18-core desktop processor. While this announcement got people excited, the specific details of this 18-core beast were still unknown until earlier today when Intel unveiled the full specifications including pricing and release dates.
The i9-7980XE will offer a base speed of 2.6GHz with a Turbo Boost 2.0 clock of 4.2GHz, and Turbo Boost 3.0 increases speed to 4.4GHz. Beyond these clock speeds, the 18-core model offers 36 threads, 44 PCI express 3.0 lanes and four channels of DDR4-2666 support.
Pricing will start at $1,999 USD for the 18-core model, and they will begin shipping on September 25th (along with the 14-core model. The 12-core version and newer i5/i7 models will ship sooner on August 28th.
