UPDATED: GoPro’s Next Generation Hero4 Camera Gets Leaked With Photos & Specs

The action sports world quickly adopted the GoPro as their camera of choice and the uses for these little HD camera have recently expanded into the world of aerial drones. GoPro typically updates their camera line every year, so the tech world has been expecting a new model to be announced shortly as the Hero3+ was unveiled last October.

While the official announcement still hasn't happened, PetaPixel was given exclusive photos and spec sheets from the company regarding these new models therefore the information below is authentic:

GoPro Hero4 Black Edition

  • Improved processor that is 2x as powerful
  • Capable of 4K video at 30fps
  • Can capture 12MP stills at 30fps
  • Audio capture now has 2x the dynamic range
  • Three new DOF settings: ultra wide, medium, and narrow
  • Manual camera settings for both video and photos: ISO, color, exposure, etc.
  • Waterproof up to 131ft (40m)
  • Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
  • Automatic low-light settings
  • QuikCapture feature offers instant recording capabilities
  • HiLight Tag allows the ability to mark footage for easy navigating in post
  • Backward compatible with all GoPro mounting accessories

GoPro Hero4 Silver Edition

  • Capable of 4K video at 15fps
  • Can capture 12MP stills at 30fps
  • Built-in touchscreen for viewing clips and calibrating settings
  • Waterproof up to 131ft (40m)
  • Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
  • Automatic low-light settings
  • QuikCapture feature offers instant recording capabilities
  • HiLight Tag allows the ability to mark footage for easy navigating in post
  • Backward compatible with all GoPro mounting accessories

As of right now, there is no confirmed details about pricing or availability on either model yet a PetaPixel source says they will be released on October 8th. We will assume the pricing will follow closely to that of the previous generations with the Black Edition flaunting a retail price of $400 and the Silver Edition being priced slightly lower at $300. UPDATE (9/29): Official announcement from GoPro (Read Press Release)

  • Hero 4 Black Edition will sell for $499 ($100 more than previous generation)
  • Hero 4 Silver Edition will sell for $399 ($100 more than previous generation)
  • Silver edition includes the integrated touchscreen LCD while the Black edition does not
  • Entry-level HERO model also introduced for $129 which offers full 1080P HD at 30 fps and 720P at 60fps
  • All models will be released on October 5th, 2014
  • New mounting solutions and accessories also announced including a new Smart Remote, The Handler (a floating handgrip), and new BacPac accessories.
