Back in 2012, Google acquired Nik Software, which is responsible for the popular photo editing software Snapseed as well as their Nik Collection. The Nik Collection offers tools for editing photos including HDR, sharpening, color, tonality, and noise reduction. Google ultimately shut down Snapseed in 2013 and dropped the Nik Collection price from $500 to $150, a significant discount on an excellent software suite.
However, an even bigger bomb just dropped today as Google has announced the full Nik Collection is now available for download to anyone for at no cost. That's right, the entire suite including the plugins for existing software like Photoshop and Lightroom can now be downloaded for free on both Mac and PC.
