While a thermal camera likely won't ever become a necessity for smartphone users, there is a handful of reasons why it could be a helpful tool for certain individuals. FLIR has officially released their ‘One' thermal camera for iOS today with a complete redesign compared to their first thermal iteration that shipped in 2014.

Instead of the camera being built directly into a case, the FLIR One simply attaches via the lightning bolt port. An Android version is in the works that will connect via MicroUSB and will ship soon. Those interested in picking up the new and improved FLIR One can now order the iOS or pre-order the Android version for $249.99. If you don't need the latest and greatest, then you can save some money by picking up the original FLIR One for $149.99.
