The drone market is booming with more consumers buying entry-level quadcopter models for use as a hobby or pushing a grey area with commercial use. One of the most popular and affordable options is the Phantom 3 Professional and DJI just announced its price drop to under $1,000 for the first time after debuting at a $1,259 price-point only ten months ago.
A price drop like this suggests there could be a new model scheduled for release soon or the company is simply trying to make moves to stay competitive in an increasingly competitive market. DJI's cheaper Phantom 3 models had all received a similar price decrease back in January along with the announcement of their $799 Phantom 3 4K unit.
With a stabilized camera unit capable of shooting 4K and capturing 12MP stills, DJI's Phantom 3 Professional has really set the bar for drone performance at a reasonable price-point. I'm looking forward to seeing what DJI may have in store for us come the NAB conference in April.
