Canon Unveils Latest Line Of Entry-Level & Pro DSLR Models

Lots of rumors have been circulating the photography community as of the past week hinting at an upcoming announcement from Canon regarding new DSLR models. Prior to any statements on Canon's behalf, both the 5DS and T6i models had gotten early photos and spec leaks from several online sources.

This morning, the Japanese-based photo manufacturer officially debuted their new product lines that include entry-level DSLR models, professional-grade DSLR models and an new, ultra-wide L series lens. Here's a brief rundown of what was announced in the DSLR world:

Canon T6i & T6s


Canon 5DS & 5DS R

  • Designed with a professional stills shooter in mind
  • All-new full-frame 50.6MP CMOS sensor (highest MP DSLR on the market)
  • Supports traditional EF lens mount
  • Dual card slots, one CF and one SD
  • USB 3.0 support for faster file transfers
  • 5DS has low-pass filter, 5DS R does not (the only difference)
  • Dual DIGIC 6 image processors
  • ISO range of 100-6400, expandable to 50 or 12800
  • Advanced mirror control system with new shutter-release delay for reduction in camera shake
  • Redesigned base plate and tripod socket for better stability when mounted
  • Ability to shoot 1.3x (30MP) and 1.6x(20MP) crop modes for those who don't need the ultra-high pixels (or file sizes), crop will show through optical viewfinder for better composition
  • M-RAW & S-RAW support allows 28MP and 12.4MP stills
  • New EOS Scene Detection System sports a 150,000 pixel RGB+IR Metering Sensor
  • 61-point High-Density Reticular AF system with 41 cross-type focus points
  • New Intelligent Tracking and Recognition improves AF tracking on moving subjects
  • Integrated anti-flicker technology for high shutter speed shots in variable lighting conditions
  • 5 fps continuous burst capabilities
