The Canary is a product of which we have previously mentioned in our best home security camera guide offering a multitude of smart home features in one convenient package. Unlike more smart home Wi-Fi cameras that solely stream video, the Canary can act as an alarm system via the triggerable siren, and monitor important aspects like air quality.
Earlier today, the company pushed out a new update which brings new features and functionality to new and existing Canary owners. The first major feature is called Canary Talk, and it takes the basic two-way audio functionality already present and amplifies it by allowing more than one user to log in and chat simultaneously.
The second two features are related to video streaming with the first being support for desktop streaming. Since launch, Canary owners have been stuck viewing their camera's feed from a mobile device, Apple TV or Apple Watch so while it's overdue, many will be relieved to finally be able to view their streams on Mac or PC.
In the past, live streaming from your smartphone was sufficient although it offered a significant delay between what you saw in the feed and what was happening live. This new update fixes that with latency-mitigation to give it a seamless feed with what is going on live in the room.
