Amazon's entrance in the streaming hardware market has been a success overall thanks to the launch of their Fire TV although the their recent smartphone attempt is a whole different story. Having said this, it is difficult to warrant the Fire TV $99 price-tag when you have competitors like Google's Chromecast and Roku's 3500R Streaming Stick luring away potential customers for a fraction of the price.
The e-commerce giant realized this predicament and has announced their own media streaming dongle dubbed the ‘Fire TV Stick‘. This new device boasts “4x the storage and 2x the memory of Chromecast, plus a dual-core processor and 1 GB of memory”. By integrating your favorite media streaming services, the Fire TV Stick offers access to hundreds of thousands of TV show episodes, movies, songs, and digital games.
The device itself is small and compact like its competitors with an HDMI connection and includes physical remote. You can also download the Fire TV companion application on your smartphone to utilize a touchscreen remote interface as well as support for voice commands.
Here's a comparison of the Fire TV Stick, Chromecast, and Roku 3500R courtesy of Amazon so expect some bias:
Now here is the real kicker, Amazon has priced the Fire TV Stick at a very competitive $39 price-point that includes the physical remote. If you act fast enough and are a Prime subscription holder, you can snag a Fire TV Stick for a discounted price of $19 for the next 48 hours while supplies last (savings appear at checkout). Anyone who isn't a Prime subscriber and wants to take advantage of the savings can sign up for a 30-day Prime free-trial and scoop one up at a discounted rate.
The anticipated ship date is November 19th, but the Prime savings only lasts 48 hours so don't hesitate. Visit the source link below for more information or to pre-order the Fire TV Stick.
