Minigore 2: Zombies is an addicting iOS game featuring action-packed zombie survival modes.

Traditionally, I'm not a huge fan of dual stick shooting games on the iPhone, but I decided to give Minigore2: Zombies a shot after hearing several raving reviews. The app is available for nearly all modern iOS devices and retails for $0.99 in the App Store. This review is based on my personal experience playing the game for both an iPhone 5 and iPad 2. It is important to note this game is universal and unlike some titles once you buy the iPhone version, the iPad version is free to download and vice versa.

Minigore 2: Zombies changed my perspective on dual stick iPhone shooting games and it truly is an addicting experience. The game is set as an action-packed zombie survival game that is played solo, but you can unlock temporary companions throughout each level. The graphics are relatively good, but this is mainly since the maps and models are cartoonish and not very detailed to begin with. You can play as a number of characters whom all resemble legos in my opinion, but each have their own distinct personality and traits. Each character can be upgraded to improve attributes like stamina, speed, and health.

Your character is equipped with a battle-axe by default, but as you kill zombies more weapons will spawn throughout the map. In total there are over 10 weapons split between melee and ranged combat. Each weapon can be upgraded using the in-game currency that is gained through killing zombies and completing one of the 300 different challenges. Along with unlocking and upgrading new weapons, you can also buy access to new levels which will give your player a change of scenery.

Your zombie opponents consist of over 60 different enemies that vary in appearance and strength. Two notable features they have to keep gameplay exciting is their proprietary engine that allows over 150 zombies to be active at once without performance drops as well as random enemy spawning patterns to keep each play-through unique. Once in awhile, you'll face one of the 7 bosses included in the game. Killing a boss gives you tons of loot and often will complete a challenge that will also reward you with more loot.

The controls are dual stick based and surprisingly comfortable given the circumstances. I found the iPad 2's screen to be more visually pleasing and easier to follow the action though the iPhone's smaller size was more comfortable to control. A friend of mine who suggested the game was able to play the iPad version with his PS3 controller, which he claimed was the perfect combination.

In the end, I found the Minigore 2: Zombies iOS app to be a refreshingly good dual stick shooter that has kept me thoroughly entertained. The app is affordably priced, updated often, has lots of customizable options, and can be replayed over and over without feeling too repetitive. If you like zombie survival games or just want an action packed iOS shooter, Minigore 2: Zombies is a must have.
