Editing photos on your iPad is easier than ever thanks to the FX PhotoSudio HD App.
Editing photos can be a painful and time consuming task for some people, but it doesn't have to be that way. The great people over at MacPhun have created an excellent app for the iPad to make the photo editing process easy to do and most importantly fun! FX Photostudio HD can be found within the App Store and retails for a price of $2.99. The software is geared for all consumers so it is not necessary to be a technology expert in order to be able to use this app.
My first initial reaction to opening and using the app was positive. I quickly noticed how truly beautiful the interface is and was nice to see all the all the editing options and tweaks available right in front of my eyes without making it a complicated process. Importing photos is simple only requiring a few clicks and your ready to edit. There are over 190 different filters you can add to your photos giving it a unique and custom look. For each individual filter you have to option configure the to your liking. You also can easily crop, rotate, resize, or adjust the color options (brightness, contrast, gamma, hue, saturation) of each photo. When you've finalized your image, you can save your it to your iPad's photo album, documents (found within app), or clipboard. Alternatively, you also have the ability to export your work via Flickr, email, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, printer, or even a 4×6 inch postcard that will be printed and shipped anywhere around the world right through the FX PhotoStudio HD app.
What makes this app even cooler is that it allows you to mix, match, and mess around with each filter to come out with some really awesome final results. For example, you can add multiple filters onto the same photo simultaneously or you can use the included masking tool to easy apply filters to only a portion of your photograph. There are many useful shortcuts found throughout the interface including the little eye icon on the right toolbar that will show you the original photo plus the undo and redo functions are present on all screens making it very simple to undo any mistakes you may encounter while editing.
Personally, I did not have high hopes for a photo editing app in the $2.99 price point and I was pleasantly surprised. I can't imagine a better way of designing this type of interface and it is a piece of cake to use. With so many filters and masking effects plus the ability to create endless combinations there are virtually thousands of possible edits you could make to a single photograph. Not only was this app easy to use, but it was addictive and seriously fun to use. The ability to export the final image to a service like Instagram is an awesome feature and something I'm going to be using personally in the future as it seems like everyone likes to show their friends their coolest photos.
In the end, I was extremely impressed with the FX PhotoStudio HD iPad app and I'm confident it is currently the best photo editing app for the iPad in the App Store. The interface is beautiful, there is a wide array of filters and effects, and the exporting options allow you to easily share your images with friends and family. For the low price, this app is a bargain and well worth the $2.99 price. I highly recommend purchasing this app if you are in the market for an affordable iPad app with excellent photo editing capabilities.
