Customers appreciate the monitor's display quality. They say games look great in 4K resolution, and it does a reasonable job with fullscreen 720p and 1080p video. The contrast is much better than the 27" Dell U2713HM it replaced, and Windows 8.1 scales 4K very well.

They mention that it doesn't have VESA mounts, the height is not adjustable, and the movement in the stand is pretty lacking in adjustment (tilt only and not very much). The stand doesn't lower, the angle adjustment is very stiff, and the provided stand is restrictive.

With a better designed stand it would be a 5 star.

With a better designed stand it would be a 5 star.
I recently purchased this monitor to pair with my MacBook Pro(2015, 2.5ghz, with NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M) for my home office setup. I'm a Graphic Designer so I mainly utilize programs such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I am not a "gamer" so that wasn't an important decision in my purchasing this monitor. I mainly wanted a HD monitor that would render my artwork crisply and display general media at a high resolution. Also, I didn't want to fork over a "gee" to purchase the Apple ThunderBolt monitor which I personally think is way overpriced for what it is. I work on two of those monitors at my job and have found that the glare off the glossy surface can be very aggravating at times. After doing a lot of online research I settled on the Samsung. I chose it for its display quality and also liked the physical design of the monitor. I purchased this cable to connect it to the laptop: Accell B143B-003J UltraAV Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort 1.2 Cable.Having done all the research before purchasing this monitor I was aware of the "wobbly" stand issue. I have found that it's not a "deal breaker" for me. Although at this price it should be better designed. My monitor stand came slightly "skewed". You can see in the photo it's not lined up with the monitor(sorry for the bad phone pic). I spent a little time "bending" it to a more aligned position. Now the stand is basically plastic, but the piece on the monitor where the stand attaches is metal and I was able to bend it manually. Overall the display is very light and may require some additional support(velcro, etc.) to make it more stable. On to the thing that really matters, the display. It's really good. Images are rendered beautifully and text, graphics, etc. are crisp. Videos streamed are high quality and definition. Honestly, it's better than the much higher priced Apple offerings and best of all, no annoying glare. I have it set at the middle setting in the "display resolution scale" which is a happy medium for me personally.Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase and would prefer to have these at my work place over the Apple monitors also, but alas, that's the company's money to spend;) In conclusion, this monitor would be a 5 star if it had a better, more stable designed base and maybe offered a few USB ports in the mix.UPDATE: 2/2/17I just wanted to do an update to this review as I've recently purchased another U28E590D monitor recently. I've always planned to have a dual monitor workstation and unfortunately a few months ago a bug got into my original U28E590D monitor and died right in the center of the screen! It's a really small bug and the monitor is still completely usable, but my eye always tends to focus right on. I have no clue how to get rid of it besides trying to disassemble the monitor, but I'd probably end up destroying it.I received the new U28E590D monitor today and was pleasantly surprised that Samsung took all the critiques about the poor design of the base on the first versions and updated it to a much more stable feeling one. As you can see the physical design of the monitor is the same except for the new version is about a 1/2 inch lower and the stand connection to the monitor is different(sorry, I should have taken pictures of the back before I set everything up, but can't get a good shot now). The monitor still only tilts forward or back, no height adjustments. The display is the exact same, crisp and clean. Whites are white, and blacks are rich. I have both monitors on the "Samsung Magic Bright" Dynamic Contrast setting which optimizes the display for you working conditions. I've included a few new photos. With this new update I can say this monitor is well worth the money and it's gone down in price so much since I purchased the original one. I've got to change my rating to 5 STARS now from the 4 I originally rated it.

I literally crapped my pants when I plugged this baby in for the first... effin amazing. Colors were simply spectacular out of the box. I usually almost always have to do some sort of mediocre color calibrating with my TV's or monitors, but not here. I am sure I will get bored and mess around with it later, but the mere fact that I didn't have to do it as soon as I opened the box was pretty impressive. So what else, well first let me show you the set up:

    Windows 8.1
    I7- 920 @ 3.26Ghz
    6GB DDR3 RAM at 1600MHZ
Single XFX 280x with 3GB of RAM (AMD Catalyst 14.4)
    256 GB SSD

Alright, Well besides spectacular colors. I was not not sure what to expect. I read so many reviews, so many people talking. (bleeding, driver issues, non readable text and etc) I must say I was worried at first. When I first started my exploration in 4k, text looked fuzzy and icons small.. I am sure you've heard it before, but after a simple restart. Everything seems to reset itself into place. Text is suddenly sharp, icons don't look so small anymore and even the task bar was ever so slightly more visible. I know you guys are going to get all excited after plugging in your monitor for the first time, but do yourself a favor, ***after initial setup in windows at 4K, restart your computer with your 4k monitor still the default screen and things should be ever so slightly better****

    Games
Now lets talk about games... This is when the crapping starts. I have crapped my pants multiple times now, its nearly impossible for me to get away from my computer. This thing is better than a LSD trip with your ex-girlfriend from college. Its simply an out of body experience. My first benchmark was TitanFall. I was scared, I didn't know what my card would be able to handle, so I placed the settings on "Very High" with no AA.. I was getting between 45 to 60 FPS.. Playable for sure at full 4K and the game looked incredible. I decided to step it up and try "insane" still playable on a single 280x, but FPS ranged from 30-60. some chop suey.

I know there are a lot of next gen games coming out. Graphic cards capable of playing those games at max'd out settings are sadly costly. The good news is you can scale down games to 2560*1440 and they look great! The bad news is that you do not get a higher refresh rate by doing this, but its entirely feasible for the mid-class gamer like myself to still play games at 4k. I looked further to some older classics, like COD modern warefare, GTA4, GRID 2 and counter strike.. All earning 60 FPS with settings maxed out with the exception of GRID, had to take out AA. ***This monitor doesn't really need AA enabled BTW the pixel density is so high that it really doesn't make a difference. I don't think I need to explain videos too much.

    Movies
There are a plethora of 4k videos on youtube, so if you want to quickly impress skeptical friend. Just show them anyone of those videos and they wont question your over priced monitor anymore. Other than that, I have been having issues finding movies that are native 4k. It will likely be some time before we get there.

    SPACE
There is so much space at 4k, I can actually multi-task comfortably. Its like, I even have gaps between windows, so much space, so little brain cells.

    ERGO
I have nothing more to say, its great, I love it, beat my expectations, my friends don't care, but I care. Hopefully someone else cares. I didn't edit, hopefully its not to bad.

The good: it's really cheap, for a 4K display (in 2014). It does 60Hz over DisplayPort. It has a novel little finger-joystick on the back for the OSD. Now, the downsides:

First, the OSD looks like something they got off a 286 BIOS. You'd think that for a 4K display, they'd try to make tho fonts look good -- or at least as good as an old 1984 Mac could do -- but no. At least it's easy to use, and you rarely need to use it.

The stand is a little wobbly, which isn't too bad, but it's not at all adjustable, and it's not VESA mount compatible. That means you're going to end up with this nice attractive looking monitor on a stack of old books to get it at just the right height and angle.

It's an understatement to say that the colors aren't very good. This isn't just "TN versus IPS" bad. Off-angle color is significantly worse than any of my 10-year-old TN displays. At normal viewing distance, a block of solid color on the screen looks like a gradient from top to bottom. Don't get this if you care about color.

At this point everybody tells you it's meant more for people like programmers who look at text all day long. Maybe. If you have a Retina MacBook Pro, you can plug in one of these as a second display, but I don't think you can plug in two of them, even if you turn off the built-in screen. At normal viewing distances, the high resolution just isn't that noticeable -- for programming, I'd rather have more real estate, than laser-quality text. MacBook Pros support dual (or more?) 30" displays, and that's a lot more text to look at than a single 28" display.

Worse, this panel is 16:9 (like most modern 4K panels), rather than 16:10 (many older TN panels, like Apple's 30-inch Cinema Display). You wouldn't think it makes any difference, and maybe for movies it doesn't, but when you care about the number of lines of text you can see at once, this panel actually looks really short.

I don't regret buying it, because it's sharp, and fast, and reliable, and cheap. But if I had to do it over again, I'd probably buy a pair of regular-resolution 24-27" monitors instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool monitor!
Reviewed in India on September 28, 2015
This monitor is amazing and I loved it (been using it 3 days). It has a slight wobble due to the stand, which is non adjustable, so ensure your table is at the right height.

It is particularly good for programming tasks with two windows open size by size. It came with a 4K HDMI cable and DP cable.. The regular HDMI cables don't support 4K (max dot clock is 148.5Mhz), so I guess the vendor was forced to ship the cable also to prevent product returns.

Intel Integrated graphics (HD 4000 on a Thinkpad X1 carbon) by default won't show up any mode higher than 19x10p/Full HD and at that resolution the text looks bad due to panel up scaling it. I had to read the monitor user manual and add in a custom video mode via the driver control panel desktop context menu. Seems to work fine without heating the laptop, although we get a warning that it might cause heating of components.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very happy with my purchase
Reviewed in India on November 1, 2015
Very happy with my purchase. I got exactly what I wanted at very affordable price. I wanted something which emulates the retina screen of Apples at the 27-28 inch screen size. And it worked as per my calculations. You can easily get the formulae from the internet.

The monitor is about 160 ppi. I generally sit with my eyes 50-60 cm away from the screen. Above 53 cm this display's pixels become indistinguishable for 20/20 vision which worked for me but may not work for all since 20/20 is worst case vision. For 14/20 you need much more pixels. I have attached a graph picture to help anyone interested get an idea.

Also, this monitor does not look good in 1920x1080 or 2560x1440. If your eye distance is less than 53 cm you will always resolve the pixels since 53 cm is for 20/20 which is the worst case possible. Don't buy this for retina type vision if that is the case. You need the 220 ppi 5K 27" display of Apple in that case.If your distance is 80 cm, then might as well go for 2560x1440 screen instead of this one.

This monitor is very good for gaming. Had an amazing time playing witcher 3 at 4k. Please research GPU requirements before you buy. And don't believe on screenshots. What you see on 4k cannot be explained in words or screenshots or downscaled videos played on a lower ppi screen

Very nice product, but small problem is that HDMI ports at the back. For inserting HDMI plug it is very difficult. Thee should have been provided at sides. For this reason I had to purchase 4k HDMI Switch. One star less only for this reason. Works very fine with my Laptop as it's graphics card supports UHD.

the best use of my money
    crisp screen and good controls
digital output is supported, so i could just plug in my required devices into the monitor, and the monitor has a 3.5 inch out jack, so the speaker will have the sound for whatever plugged in content you have selected (this has 2 HDMI and on Display Port)
Stand could be a bit more sturdier but who really moves their pc monitor too much.
a real 4K experience for a decent price. Gaming on this thing is insane
