Autonomous is a relatively new company known for their innovative office furniture technology. They started with their Autonomous SmartDesk which takes the high cost out of the equation giving you a fully functional sit/stand desk for under $500.
They are back at it again except this time it is not with a new desk, but an ergonomic office chair. The Autonomous Chair is now being crowdfunded on Kickstarter and will run for a 30 day ending on Thursday, October 20th. With a goal of raising $25K, the campaign surpassed this milestone in just the first 30 minutes.
Autonomous Smart Chair Technical Specs
- Korean imported soft fabric mesh back
- Fabric, sponge seat
- Height adjustable arms
- Adjustable lumbar support
- Adjustable fabric mesh headrest
- Single lever lock and tilt mechanism
- Gas lift tested to 330 lbs
- Seat size: width and depth 19.685 inches (50 cm)
With a little over 24 hours into the campaign, over $110K has been raised making it an overwhelming success. The Autonomous Smart Chair will retail for $299, but the Kickstarter offers discounted pricing depending on when you choose to fund.
For example, the first 100 backers got their chairs for only $199, the next 200 backers for theirs for $225 and the remaining patrons can score one for $249.
This late in the campaign, there is only the final tier available, but that is still $50 off retail and with a planned ship date of December 2016 there is still a great incentive.
At a $300 price-point, the chair seems to have a lot going for it with a focus on ergonomics and comfort at a fraction of the price of high-end competing models like our personal favorite, the Herman Miller Embody.
Those interested in backing the campaign can head over to their Kickstarter page or visit their website for more information. We have reached out to an Autonomous rep to try to get our hands on a review unit for a full evaluation so stay tuned.
